2020-03 Sunday River Maine Ski Trip

Sunday River Maine is one of the largest ski resorts on the East coast of the United States and is spread across 6 peaks.  It is different than most other ski resorts on the East Coast because if you can stand back far enough away, you can see all 6 peaks at once.  Sunday River has some good tree runs and very good natural skiing.  We drove up to Sunday River on Sunday and stopped off in Portland Maine for a few pints at Shipyard Brewing Company.  Shipyard serves both their own brewed beer as well as some local Maine beers. At right is the menu of beers.

Here is me on the slopes for our first day of skiing.  The first 2 days were absolutely beautiful weather and great skiing.  The next 2 days were good weather but not the best ski weather.  Thursday, the temp hit 45 degrees Fahrenheit and we were actually comfortable around the pool. Nearly every day after skiing, we came back to our hotel and hung out in the Hot tub and pool to soothe our muscles. The Jordan hotel is very nice and has some very good amenities but the hotel is physically apart from the rest of the main resort and if you want to visit an outside restaurant, its a 10 minute drive just to get to the resort road. The other issue with the Jordan is that if the weather is bad, you need to take a shuttle over to the main resort because they close down the lifts that service this area. One day during our stay, we needed to bus to the main resort and one day we had to wait until 10 am to ski because of weather. Other than that, Sunday River and the Jordan hotel are great places to Ski and Stay.
